This snuff is described as a moist medium fine ground snuff with a banana and menthol flavour.
Upon opening the tin I see the snuff is very similar in color and texture to McChrystals O&G.
After having taken a pinch I immediately detect a banana flavor which is very pleasant. Not overly sweet as if you were chewing on a piece of banana taffy but more light as if you had just smelled the insides of a banana cream pie. This is not to say there is any type of creaminess to this snuff’s flavor. It is pure banana in its flavor and although it is described as mentholated I can not seem to detect any type of menthol in this snuff.
The flavor does not seem to linger for a very long time and seems to fade fast. On a scale of 1-10 the initial hit of banana flavor is about a 7 and after about a minute or two it fades to a 5 followed by a very light 3 after about 5 minutes. At this point I always like to then take a quick walk outside my house and see how the fresh outside air effects the flavor of my snuff. I immediately sense a strengthening of the flavor back up to about a 5 with a very fresh scent. I find the fresh outside air has this effect on many snuffs especially fruity flavored ones and this snuff is no different.
The snuff itself is extremely easy on the nose and for me, my nose stayed dry while enjoying 3 solid hits over the course of 15 minutes. This is not to say the snuff dries your nose out, actually quite the opposite as it seems to be a perfect blend for me which neither completely dries my nose out as many American snuffs do, nor does it cause my nose to run very quickly as say Wilson's honey menthol or Raspberry menthol seems to do.
Overall I am pretty blown away by Samuel Gawith's banana snuff. Much better than I expected. Although unless banana is one of your favorite flavors in the world I doubt that this would become your everyday snuff. Not because it is a snuff that could not be taken all day every day, but rather the fact it is such a unique flavor that for most people banana is a flavor they need to be in the mood for. Myself, I will be sure to always keep a stock of banana in my snuff bar as I find it extremely pleasant and would not want to be without it when my urge for a fruity snuff hits.
Giving an overall rating on such a unique flavored snuff is tough because you need to consider that it really depends on one’s snuff tastes when attempting to put a number on a fruit flavored snuff. But this snuff is so tasty to me that I feel confident in putting a solid 8 out of 10 rating on this snuff and feel anybody would definitely want to give this snuff a try.
